Join us for a tour of two significant properties in historic Dummerston, Vermont.
This half-day event will begin at the Naulakha Estate, where Rudyard Kipling wrote many of his beloved works. Representatives from The Landmark Trust USA will present two current restoration projects. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the beginning stages of a rehabilitation of the estate’s stable building and learn about a comprehensive enclosure restoration at the main house, including replacement of the wood shingle roof and perimeter drainage improvements. The visit will also include a viewing of the main house interiors.
Next, we will visit nearby Scott Farm, an active orchard that has been in cultivation since 1791. We will learn about recent condition assessments and restoration plans for multiple buildings on the National Register-listed property and tour the work of the Stone Trust. The Stone Trust’s indoor training center – located in the farm’s 1862 barn – and outdoor Stone Wall Park represent the largest display of dry-stone walling in North America. Numerous sections of walls and features are continually rebuilt in workshops and tests, demonstrating many styles of wall from around the world, built from at least six local types of stone.
A light lunch will be provided during the tour of Scott Farm. Following the tour, visitors will have the opportunity to stroll the grounds and enjoy the gorgeous, historic setting.
